Our preschool program is where play and learning are combined to help develop social, emotional, physical and academic skills. Materials such as puzzles, games, manipulative toys, art, and math activities are used to teach academic concepts. They will be encouraged to explore and interact in an environment that is safe, interesting and fun. This is the age group where Zoophonics is introduced. Children will learn to recognize their name in print, and be introduced to letters and the sounds they make.Children will be encouraged to trace letters and their names. Also calendar time is introduced for counting and number recognition.
Pre-K Class Program Ages 4 to Kindergarten
The Pre-K program is similar to the preschool program but is modified to have more emphasis on basic skills that will be needed for kindergarten. Circle time is longer, art, math and science activities are more detailed. Zoophonics is more often utilized with this age, to help connect them to the reading skills that they will need for sucess later in schooling. The children will be encouraged to develop writing skills, by offering writing supplies and paper for drawing, or writing. Name cards will be available for children to use for help when writing their name on their own. Children are also encouraged to learn more about letters and learn how to write them through weekly letter lessons, combined with teacher interactions. This is the age when kindergarten assessments are given to help parents and teachers know if a child is ready for kindergarten. The assessment is an accurate indicator of the child's ability to remain above or at grade level in kindergarten.
School Age Program Kindergarten to Third Grade
School Age children will be encouraged to expand their knowledge of reading, math and writing in the classroom, and to helped to learn new skills. Assistance with homework will be available when necessary. Transportation to and from Vine Hill Elementary and summer or break activities, will be provided by private car. Summer or break activities are an extra charge that will not be included in the monthly charge. Children must be signed up for activities in advance. Activities will be subject to parent requests, and teacher availability.
